Bit of a Costly Problem

9/05/2011

Well everything is just humming along, the guys are on the block trenching out all the foundations.

I get a call from Henley mid afternoon telling me i have to visit and meet with the construction mgr, as they had found a septic tank !!!! and that would be a problem.. No shit ?? ( sorry bout the pun )

What the..?? Firstly the house is not that old and surely there would have been a record of the sewerage being put onto the mains easement.. from a Tank.

Turns out there was a mix up from the Foundation contractors office to Henley, the contractors had been on a couple of Jobs for Henley that had turned up issues, 1 was a septic tank and the other was Soil soft spots.

Ours had turned up soft spots.. these " soft spots " are areas that have been Filled with Foreign material when the original house was built, these imported fills were brought in to make up levels.

There was Soft loamy soil, clay.. bricks etc etc.. basically this all has to be Excavated out until they find descent foundation earth.

Cut a long story short, they had to pump in about 18m3 of concrete ( 3 trucks worth ) what with the Concrete cost, removal of the soil, extra time for operaters , re -engineering for the foundations.. we'll be up for about 5 grand....

Below shows the extra depth and width! , this was one part only , there were quite a few areas this deep..

Reckon we could build a 6 story on this now..???
